Minutes for January 30, 2008 Selectmen’s Meeting

Members Present:  Jean C. Harmon, Clifford L. Emery, Robert C. Libby, Daniel T. Collomy and Peter Burns.

Others present:  Olive Collomy, Peter Pinkham, Nick Pinkham and May Schumacher.

Business Meeting Agenda

1.      Call to Order.

The Meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m.

2.      Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes.

Selectmen’s Meeting Minutes January 23, 2008.  Approved 5-0.


3.      Discussion held between 5:00 & 7:00 p.m.


6:00 p.m. – Community Day Committee  discuss location, activities, etc.

4.      Review of Correspondence.

·       Email from Representative Don Marean – Re:  Legislation and State issues update
·       Email from Daniel Rose, Drummond & Woodsum – Re:  FMLA change



5.      Review of Projects and Issues.

Selectman Libby reported that he has been working with the Tax Collector on old Personal Property accounts to get them removed from the books.

Selectman Collomy reported that the Building Committee and other interested parties met with Deluca and Hoffman to review the plans for the New Garage.  The plans are not yet final.

Selectman Pulsoni reminded everyone that the last day to get your dog licensed is January 31.  Starting February 1 there is a late fee.

Selectman Harmon stated that she has spoken with the DOT regarding the Route 22 and 202 road issues.  She stated that Route 22 to the Rankin road is scheduled for a rebuild and Route 22 from Route 202 to the Saco Road is scheduled for resurfacing.  Selectman Harmon also questioned the Saco/Buxton rebuild of Route 112 and the DOT will get back on this issue.

Selectman Harmon also said that sometimes the Selectmen’s Meetings are 12 minutes long and other times they are longer.  Some weeks more is going on than other times to report.  The Town has good employees and they know what needs to be done for the public.


6.      Old Business.

Selectman Collomy stated that he dropped in to the Community Food Co-op in Buxton Center last Saturday and reported that 84 people came to pick up food.  

Selectman Harmon thanked Snells for donating fresh carrots to the Buxton Food Co-op.

Selectman Pulsoni reported that Butter Town Florist will be re-opening on Friday, February 1 under a new name; Lowes at Bar Mills is reopening and 3-D Variety has re-opened.

7.      New Business.
        
Selectman Collomy presented four canes to the Town that are replicas of the original Boston Post Cane given to each New England town by Edwin Crozier of the Boston Post .  The canes were made and given to the Town free of charge by Bob Cariddi a Buxton resident.  The Town of Buxton has the original cane that was presented to the Town.



8.      Executive Orders.

E.O.070801024 – An order to accept the resignation of Robert W. Carr, Jr. a Reserve Patrol Officer.  Approved 3-2-0 (Selectmen Harmon, Emery and Collomy voted “yes”, Selectmen Libby and Pulsoni voted “no”)

E.O.070801025 – An order to approve the mileage reimbursement rate for the Town of Buxton at 50.5 cents per mile effective January 30, 2008.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.070801026 – An order to approve an Abatement for Tax Year 2001 for Personal Property taxes in the amount of $50.37 for Case No. 115.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.070801027 – An order to approve an Abatement for Tax Year 2001 for Personal Property taxes in the amount of $11.04 for Case No. 117.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.070801028 – An order to approve an Abatement for Tax Year 2001 for Personal Property taxes in the amount of $52.44 for Case No. 218.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.070801029 – An order to approve an Abatement for Tax Year 2002 for Personal Property taxes in the amount of $162.17 for Case No. 102.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.070801030 – An order to approve an Abatement for Tax Year 2002 for Personal Property taxes in the amount of $93.05 for Case No. 115.  Approved 5-0.

Reminder – all dogs must be licensed before February 1 to avoid a late fee.

Selectman Harmon reported that the audio problems with the broadcast of Town Meetings have been fixed with the replacement of an audio mixer.

May Schumacher, Chair of the Buxton Community Day event, gave an extensive overview of the Community Day activities that are planned for July 19.
